Autumn 2024

In autumn 2024, two-week annual leave with one on family holiday and one free to indulge in photography. The first week I set off for the the stunning Northumbria situated near Barmburgh, I had chosen this iconic area, only to discover that it coincided with the school half-term holiday plus what turned out to be a blue sky week. As landscape photographer we are of course never happy with the weather so I struggled a little and to avoid the crowds and sky I decided to try small details, rock and waves plus a few castles here and there.
I find the waves crashing on rocks fascinating and relaxing and could spend hour watching without taking a photo. Trouble is the tide coming in and out is the scene constantly changes once I start taking photos I make a culling nightmare with hundreds of variations.
The second week of my holiday took a different turn for a week-long family retreat in Cornwall. We stapped at an excellent Airbnb, with its own ancient woodland that was perfect for exploration and woodland photography while exercising the dog and a little bit of macro on some very small mushrooms. Cornwall greeted us with a blanket of grey. A complete reversal of the previous week( as I said we're never happy) With no light I used the edges of the woodland to give some contrast to the available light.
Dog walks, cosy pubs and beeches galore, I did get to Bottalack mines for the compulsory shots my favourite being the portrait view. Nothing particularly original in this well shot location.
